On board the Narita Express, the conductor politely informed us we had bought the wrong tickets and owed him about $8. Unfortunately I had been diligently spending money all day with the express intention of having no yen left by the time I got to the airport. We both emptied our wallets and the remaining coins added up to THE EXACT AMOUNT WE OWED. Which was lucky. Cash machines in Japan are strangely hard to locate, and it would have been impossible to find one in time to catch the next train for our flight. So we were allowed to remain on the train, and made it back to Auckland around noon the following day.
